The city is considered today by UNESCO as a Historical and Cultural Patrimony of Mankind. Day 7: Ouro Preto - Mariana with Gold Mine + Train with Lunch
After breakfast, pick up for the tour: we will take a train, known as the "Maria Fumaça", a 19th century steam train, from Ouro Preto to Mariana, also known as the “Enchanted City” which was founded in 1696 and was for a short time, the capital of Minas Gerais. The town originally called the “Royal Village of Our Lady of Carmel” received its present name “Mariana” in 1745 in honor of the Queen Maria Ana. On this tour we will walk down the picturesque streets to see houses that date back to the beginning of the 18th century, with balconies of wood, iron and soapstone. In Minas Gerais Square, we will visit the St. Francis of Assis Church known for its intricately sculpted door, the Our Lady of Carmel Church, the City Hall and the Pillory. After that, we will visit the oldest gold mine in Brazil, "Mina da Passagem", which keeps secrets and mysteries that enchant everyone. A trolley drives us to the underground galleries that reach 315 meters of width and 120 meters of depth. The natural lake inside the mine impresses everyone who sees it. Since its foundation - in the beginning of the 18th century - approximately 35 tons of gold have been extracted. The return to Ouro Preto will be by car. Duration: approximately 8 hours

Leaving our vehicle behind in the Municipal Square, close to the Lacerda lift, we will continue on foot, giving visitors the opportunity to fully appreciate the splendid buildings that take us back in time to the beginnings of this vibrant city. Along the way, we will stop off at the São Francisco Church, with its extravagant gold leaf baroque designs, from where we will continue our tour, heading towards the Largo do Pelourinho, at the heart of the neighborhood.
Duration: approximately 4 hours
Night in Salvador de Bahia.
Day 10: Salvador de Bahía – Full day Schooner cruise with lunch
Breakfast. After our transfer from the hotel, we board a comfortable schooner and cruise to two of the 36 islands in this sparkling bay, a day of rest and filled relaxation offering great views of the city both on the outbound and homeward journeys. Our first stop is Frades (or Monk's) Island. Virtually uninhabited, the island is home to some of the best beaches in the bay. Here we have ample time to swim in the warm inviting waters, or relax in the sun or the shade, and where a cold drink is never far away! Then we continue our cruise to the larger Itaparica Island for lunch. The colonial town of Itaparica is just a short distance by local transport for those interested in visiting this charming waterfront town (optional). We return to the schooner, raise anchor and set off for Salvador with the setting sun flooding the city with its warm glow. Duration: approximately 8 hours
Night in Salvador de Bahia.
Day 11: Salvador de Bahía half-day Bahian Cuisine + Transfer OUT
After breakfast, start your tour: To understand a city the best place to begin is in its local markets. Salvador is surrounded by the bay and ocean, and Yemanjá, the goddess of the sea, protects its fishermen. Fittingly, our tour focused on Bahia cuisine should begin in the recently refurbished Agua dos Meninos fish market; the city's main distribution center for all that comes from Yemanjá's domain. From here it is a short hop to the Sao Joaquin market, a traditionally vital trading link for the abundance of produce from the farming hinterlands of the Reconcavo. Still the largest open air market in Brazil, it is a labyrinth of almost 800 stalls selling a myriad of goods; fruit, vegetables and spices, earthenware cooking utensils, wicker basketwork, medicinal and sacred herbs. We continue our tour with lunch at a local restaurant to try the main dishes of Bahian cuisine. Duration: approximately 5 hours. (Subject to flight schedule)

At the appropriate time pick up transfer to the airport to take your flight back home.

Amazing Brazilian Experience!
We just got back from a two week vacation to Brazil and couldn\'t have asked for more. Eureka\'s team recommended, organized and booked our three-stop itinerary, including domestic flights, driver pickups and drop offs and guided day tours. The local tour guides and drivers were all polite, knowledgeable and prompt! The hotels were excellent. I asked for boutique hotels wherever possible and they delivered. Our only bad experience was due to poor weather conditions in Bahia. We even asked for a last minute change of plans to get us back to sunny Rio for our last 24 hours and Ailen did an amazing job making that happen. Highly recommend and will use them in the future.

We all had a wonderful time. Loved Buenos Aires. The hotel\'s you selected were very nice - especially liked the room in Recoleta(overlooking the cemetery) and the one in Mendoza(with a balcony overlooking the tree lined street). The hotel in Colonia was beautiful and the pool felt great after our travels. Colonia was definitely a worthwhile place to visit. We were wishing we had another night there. The glacier tour was definitely a highlight - walking on the glacier with crampons and of course it helped that we had a beautiful day. The wine tour was also very special as we had a guide who was fun to talk with and gave us lots of information about the area and the vineyards. The lunch at Septima was especially good. We did not love the city of Montevideo, but we rented a car without any problem and went to Piriopolis for a day at the beach and that was great. The hotel desk person was a big help with setting this up.

Thank you for your help and I will send friends your way when they are ready to travel to Argentina.

Steve C. From California
We used Eureka Travel to plan a 21 day trip for 6 adult friends to Chile, Argentina, and Brazil. We all had a fantastic time, and have nothing but good things to say about Analia and the people at Eureka. When we began planning the trip, Analia was very helpful and responsive as we went through the various iterations about exactly where we were going and what we were going to see and do. The final itinerary was very clear and we had a phone conversation to go over each day of the trip to ensure that I knew exactly what to expect. All 6 of us shared the same itinerary in Chile and Argentina, but we went separate ways once we reached Brazil. Analia was very accommodating and helpful in making the different arrangements for all of us on the Brazil portion of the trip.

Once the trip began, we were all very pleased with the design of the itinerary (where we were, how many days we spent there, what we did, etc). Analia and Cecilia (who lives in Argentina) were both very responsive to the questions or issues we had along the way (there were very few). All of our accommodations were first rate and in great locations. All of our transportation was extremely well coordinated - the drivers and tour guides were where they were supposed to be when they were supposed to be there. We had at least 7 or 8 different tour guides in the different locations throughout the trip, and they were all incredible, with excellent English, local knowledge, and interpersonal skills.

Of course there were a few glitches along the way, but they were all quickly handled with a text, phone call, or Email. We have nothing but praise for Analia and Eureka, and would definitely use them again or recommend others to plan their holiday to South America.

We stumbled upon Eureka doing a google search, and so glad we did! I'm normally a DIY traveler, but with the complexity of logistics for a trip to Peru/Machu Picchu, we didn't want to have to worry about our itinerary. The Eureka team was very helpful in putting together a thorough itinerary, and everything on our trip was perfect.
